Artist Introduction

The three-piece punk-rock band featured is called 'Standoff', and the lead member is a female. I have chosen to use a female to break through conventions but also to widen the target audience of the magazine. She is defeminised and shows her rebellious attitude and masculinity through her piercings and heavy eye makeup, in a similar way to her male band mates. Therefore the band I have chose to feature is representative of the genre.

'Standoff' formed 4 years ago when the members met in high school, but they have only recently found fame and success after a video of them performing went viral on YouTube. Before their recent fame, they've made a living playing at small gigs in their hometown in South London since high school. Despite unsupportive relatives and harsh criticism from class mates at school, their passion and dedication to music has driven them to continue doing what they love. As a result their fan base has grown massively and continues to do so.

They have gained substantial support from similar bands such as All Time Low, whose lead member has used Twitter to help share Standoff's music. As a result, Hopeless Records, a label known for punk rock music, have offered the band a record deal. Standoff plan to tour Europe in 2013, and have already sold out well known venues such as the Hammersmith Apollo. With their fan base in the USA rapidly growing, they also plan to tour North America next autumn.
